On the flight home from Las Vegas on June 1, 2008, I had a rare opportunity
to fly over Edwards Air Force Base. The Restricted Area R-2515 was not
active, and so was available for civilian aircraft overflight above 6000'
altitude.
So we took the opportunity and made a small shortcut.
From the point near Barstow where they told us we could do this,
the straight-line shortcut took us directly over Edwards.
It was almost like a reward after a big day with a tough exam.
I had been in Las Vegas where I took and passed the FAA practical test
or "check ride" to get my flight instructor certificate.
