Here are photos and the GPS ground track from my flight on Feb 28, 2008
to Apple Valley and Mojave.
In Mojave, I had lunch with the crew from
Masten Space Systems.
This flight was to meet a "cross country" (non-local) flight requirement
for the commercial pilot license.
I needed a flight with a leg of at least 250 nautical miles (met by the
279nm leg from Reid-Hillview to Apple Valley), 3 stops and a total of
at least 300 nautical miles.
The total distance part is easy if you're returning to the same point
as you started as this flight did.
Along the way from Apple Valley to Mojave, I got some pictures looking
down at a Boeing 747 making a practice approach to Palmdale.
After I got home, review of the photos showed the plane had the unique
tail configuration of the NASA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft.
Sorry, I didn't take any pictures in Apple Valley or Mojave because I was
busy flying the plane. All these photos were taken at moments while in
stable flight when there was time to take a picture and set the camera down.
