Steve Palmer invited some of us from the
Stratofox Aerospace Tracking Team
to join in on the
fireworks show he runs for the town of Cameron Park.
I had met Steve at the CSXT space launch in May, where he and some of his family members
participated and earned their memberships in Stratofox.
Though the invitation for this event came when we talked again when
all of us attended as spectators at the launch of
SpaceShipOne
on June 21.
I had never seen this side of a fireworks show before.
Even with the seriousness necessary in following instructions,
it was a lot of fun to set up.
And of course it was even more fun to watch the show and take pictures -
but by that point the experts at the computer controls were doing all
the work.
It is a different experience to watch a fireworks show that
you participated in constructing.
Even with pride aside, the people of Cameron Park watching from around the
lake got an excellent show, especially for the size of town that it is.
You could hear the cheers of the excited and appreciative audience
from all directions.
Given the opportunity, I would definitely do this again.
