Visit to Upper High Dry Lakebed, August 5, 2007

My co-worker Joe Isca and I went from the AeroPac "Aeronaut" rocket launch site on the Black Rock Desert playa to Upper High Dry Lakebed on the morning of Sunday, August 5, 2007. I've been wanting to get back up there to take a look since the impact crater theory came up in January.

For safety, we were checking in regularly via Amateur Radio with Paul Hopkins KE6DAX at the AeroPAC launch site.

Discussion of the results is in e-mails to the br-crater mail list on Aug 6 and Aug 7.

See also my pictures from AeroPAC's Aeronaut 2007 launch, which was taking place all weekend on the Black Rock Desert playa.

It looks like the GPS lost some accuracy while we were on the slope to the north, which is easy to do because the hill was probably blocking view of some satellites. There are two data points which look as if we climbed on top of the cliff. We didn't. I'll see if I can find and remove those data points and redo the image. But that's for later.

img_9834.jpg - 2007:08:05 08:48:36I parked my truck at the edge of Upper High Dry lakebed pointing in the direction we were going hiking, in case anyone needed to find us.

img_9835.jpg - 2007:08:05 10:25:16The second hike of the morning was on the north side of Upper High Dry. The gray rocks on top of the cliff appear to overlie possible pre-impact rocks which we were looking for.
