Pictures from "StratoFox 2" trip to Black Rock

Sunday, August 24, 2003 - Tearing Down Camp

Sunday we did things a little backwards - we tore down most of the camp except the canopy before we cooked breakfast. But it worked. We had a hot breakfast of bacon and eggs before we cleaned up the last signs of our site, double-checked the area and left.

Our return trip on Sunday was the day before Burning Man officially opens. So we avoided Hwy 447, which was expected to have lots of traffic and people trying to pass all the time. Instead, we took Smoke Creek Desert Road and Wendel Rd to US395 outside Susanville, California.

From there the road took us through scenic green forests with lakes and creeks. We had lunch in Chester, near Lake Almanor and Mt Lassen, Our last stop enroute was in Chico.

Most of the camp has been torn down now. The canopy remains so Sean and Dave can cook breakfast for us.

Sean and Dave cook breakfast for everyone while the rest continue to tear down the camp. It seems a little chaotic in the photo but it worked as intended - we all got some hot food before we left.

Now the camp is gone and we've inspected the area to make sure we left no trace that we were here (other than our tire tracks and footprints, of course.) Everyone else has started their vehicles and are waiting for me to be done taking this picture.
