Pictures from "StratoFox 2" trip to Black Rock

Saturday, August 23, 2003 - Lunch at Black Rock Hot Springs

We finished exploring the 4x4 trail in the Black Rock Range around 11AM and decided to have lunch at Black Rock Hot Springs, which was about an hour away by winding 4x4 trails.

At Black Rock Hot Springs, we looked around and had lunch. Then Justin said his gas tank could use a top-off. We don't leave anyone behind out of radio range so we all went as a group to Empire (a 75-mile round trip) afterward.

Now we're headed to Black Rock Point where we'll have lunch. We were originally planning to have lunch Saturday at Double Hot Springs. But we had already been there on Friday's detour to get here.

After lunch Saturday, we're on our way across the Black Rock Desert playa to top off our gas tanks at Empire. We anticipate lines and crowds, an extremely odd situation on a trip to the wilderness, since Burning Man will be starting in a few days.

Though there was some wait, filling up at Empire went smoother than expected. There are a lot of vehicles but Hwy 447 was still moving, if slowly.
