Pictures from "StratoFox 2" trip to Black Rock

Friday, August 22, 2003 - Evening at Camp

We finally did reach the location we intended to camp for the evening. Here are the pictures of selecting a location and setting up camp.

(1536x1024 2030K) (500x333 24K) I took this picture from atop the island in the second lakebed shortly after we arrived. It's the first time here for all of us. This view looks south - Dave and Justin are still zipping around the lakebed looking around.

But when I mentioned that BLM rules don't allow on-ground fires on playas, we decided to stay here anyway and just not use it. It's a short hike from here to the top of the island, which still makes this a good spot.

Well, at the time of this picture Dave is taking a moment to marvel at all the stars visible from this spot, where there's absolutely no city light glare. We knew that would be the case but it's still a stunning view on a clear moonless night.
