Pictures from "StratoFox 1" trip to Black Rock

Saturday morning on the playa

These pictures are from Saturday morning on the Black Rock Desert playa. We took pictures of the campsite we had hastily constructed with little daylight the evening before. And there are some shots of the drive to Black Rock Point, 10 miles to the north.

(1536x1024 2025K) (500x333 30K) Rachel watches as Jeremy KE6JJJ contacts the International Space Station via APRS with his handheld Ham Radio during a brief pass as the station flies by at 17,000mph.

(1536x1024 2122K) (500x333 30K) Heath KG6GTX prepares to fly a kite that he brought with him. There was some discussion of trying to hang a radio beacon off it for flight testing since we hadn't been able to get a balloon for the weekend.

(1536x1024 1985K) (500x333 27K) Jeremy KE6JJJ is still sending packets to the space station. I was later able to confirm his success by receiving the space station's response on the radio in my truck. He had been receiving so many packets from Hams who wanted to contact the station that he didn't know if it had gotten his. I looked it up in my radio's logs and found that it had.
